Dear ____,
We welcome all of you to Yunho Kim’s solo exhibition Dear ____.
Up until now, Yunho Kim has directed his camera and gaze outward while exploring fundamental questions concerning the medium of photography itself. In 2017, after completing several exhibitions and residencies, Yunho Kim took a year to rest. Since then, he has gradually refocused his attention inward. Through his work, he projects his own life onto the plain, everyday objects that he encounters as if engaging in a monologue with himself. Then, like echo, this conversation continues within himself in a continual loop. In this way, images of objects come into contact with the contemplations he projects onto objects.
Recall the innocent wishes made under the stars during childhood,
Search for the dream of Jonathan while gazing at the flapping wings of seagulls over the ocean,
Learn the meaning of perseverance from the yellow daisy that blooms in the crack between two solid buildings.
In these new works, Yunho Kim interrogates the value of art and life from the perspective of a son, husband, father, and artist. Through this solo exhibition, titled Dear ____, he hopes to share with audiences his observations on the tension between reality and the ideal, as well as his reflections on the relationship between dreams and wishes, which can sometimes feel futile.
The exhibition concludes with a simple yet powerful message: “Be faithful to this moment.” We wish to share with you the beauty of the moment when one discovers the meaning of life at the end of a journey of contemplation.
Yours truly,
